African Luxury Magazine the go-to guide for to all things glitz and glamor about Africans everywhere recently shared insights about the luxurious style of British-Ghanaian director Amma Asante at the opening night screening of her new movie ‘Belle’ which occurred at the 25th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. Culled from the magazine, ‘Amma wore a Vivienne Westwood Red Label Black off the shoulder taffeta corset dress. The knee length dress features a gathered skirt and an asymmetrical hem. She accessorized with a pair of slingback peep toe heels and a box clutch. Red lipstick and a straight hair do completed the look. She walked the red carpet with her husband Soren Pedersen.’
The film by the way according to Variety Magazine was written by Misan Sagay, and it tells the amazing true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, a biracial daughter of a Royal Navy captain, who fought to end slavery in England. Belle was depicted in a famous 1779 painting by an unknown painter, carrying fruit and wearing a turban. It took Asante four years to bring “Belle” to the bigscreen. She was doing rewrites on her wedding day and by her ailing father’s bedside. “He died an hour later, and we were shooting those scenes the next day,” she says.
