Donna Karan “The Journey” Collection at Urban Zen Stores

Donna Karan has created a 40-piece capsule Hamptons collection called “The Journey” for her Urban Zen stores, with outposts in Sag Harbor, N.Y., and Manhattan. The backbone of the collection is in-season deliveries, a “buy-now, wear-now” philosophy Karan has been preaching for years.

“When a woman walks into a store, she wants to be inspired,” Karan said. “She shops for things she can wear here, today — yet also knows she can wear it into the next season. Especially midsummer. She knows she can’t live at the beach. But she can take that spirit with her when she heads back to the city and into fall. Everything goes back to black, whatever the piece.”

“The Journey” includes dresses, tops, pants, skirts, jackets and scarves. Retail prices range from $595 to $995 for tops; $695 to $795 for pants; $495 for skirts, $1,195 to $1,295 for dresses, and $1,095 to $2,695 for jackets.

The collection contains a new signature wrap dress with linen borders to give texture and allows the wearer to make three dresses out of one. It also has handmade, one-of-a-kind Indian sari tops and dresses, each made from a sari that Karan hand-picked in India and cut into special pieces for the collection. Many of the sari, woven and jersey pieces are handmade in New York City. The rest of the collection is made in Italy. Colors include tan, bronze, sand, eggshell, indigo and black. A lot of the colors are hand-dyed by artisan dyers to achieve a sun-kissed look. There is also handmade leather jewelry.

The full Donna Karan Journey Collection will be available in Sag Harbor starting this week, with select pieces in the New York City store.
